Jasmine and Isabella the sheep
Jasmine was a victim of the agriculture industry and had been bred for wool. Jasmine's mother, no longer useful for her wool, was being transported to the slaughterhouse when Jasmine was born en route. What many people don't realise is that pregnant sheep are not allowed to be transported and any lambs born during transit are usually discarded on the side of the road, which is where Jasmine was found, just one day old. Jasmine was easy prey for an eagle looking for food but luckily she was rescued in the nick of time. Her kind-hearted rescuer brought her to FAR where she was given the loving care she needed in order to thrive. Isabella, a milk-fed lamb, was rescued from a private owner where buyers choose a lamb to purchase before they are slaughtered. One of our caring supporters found out about Isabella's situation and approached the owner in an attempt to rescue and her mother. Isabella was released and saved from certain death. Her mother was no so lucky, despite numerous attempts on multiple occasions to rescue her as well. Isabella arrived, missing her mum or, at the very least, interaction with her own kind. It was only when she met Jasmine that she came to life and began to frolic. Check out our video to see Isabella's first time outside at FAR. Jasmine and Isabella have been inseparable since Isabella first arrived at The Sanctuary and demonstrate the importance of having a best bed, especially when life gets a bit tough. Isabella quickly found her feet, which was cause for concern for our Director, Brad King (see the video around 1.30 minutes). Luckily, she'd already bonded with one of our dedicated volunteers and returned as soon as she was called. It's just one reason why we love our volunteers!
